Welcome to the ornamental world of D’ASCOLI, where we celebrate the decorative arts of diverse cultures in our original designs, using ancient and modern techniques. We employ sustainable, low carbon forms of production such as hand-weaving, digital printing, and hand embroidery to create socially responsible products that enrich the lives of makers and users with an authentic provenance, and the integrity that results from small-batch production.

Uzbek

Uzbek is a design that celebrates the tradition of ikat weaving in Central Asia, in a place now known as Uzbekistan. Ikat weaving is a process in which yarns are tie-died before weaving, resulting in a distinctive flame-stitch effect at the edges of the motifs. This local tradition evolved with large-scale designs in strong colors yielding a bold, graphic aesthetic. We use this inspiration to create our Uzbek design and, for these dresses and tops, we print it on Fine Khadi - our hand spun, hand woven Indian cotton.

Bel Canto

Bel Canto is the name given to a musical genre originating in Italy in the 18th and early 19th century , and with the Bel Canto collection we enter a Baroque fantasyland where Divas and Bella Donnas exist as if in an elegant opera. Silk crepe de Chine and hand-spun and hand-woven cotton parade in an array of vibrant prints – with some hand-embroidered details – all vying for the audience’s affection. Easygoing silhouettes in both midi and maxi lengths offer solutions for day and evening with a refined bohemian aesthetic.

Summer Classics

We created our Summer Classics collection of dresses and tops using three different qualities of Indian cotton that has been hand-spun and hand-woven in the countryside of West Bengal, India. Khadi Voile is so fine that it is semi-sheer so we double it with a lining in most models, and it feels soft and luxurious like the legendary Bengali muslin favored by Roman Patricians since ancient times. Piedmont Khadi is a mid-weight cotton woven with fine yarns yielding a clean, crisp feel. Fine Khadi is our classic summer cotton fabric and is most versatile; ideal for town or country.

Long Island

The Long Island collection commemorates the English colonial origins of America where, on the east end of Long Island, historic windmills and seaside fishing villages now sit beside elite cottages. Ticking stripes and homespun flora designs mix with damask patterns and refined embroideries, evoking the feeling of beach life and country club soirées typical of the East End (as this unique locale outside New York City is known). Lightweight silk crepe de Chine and hand-spun, hand-woven cotton are the vehicles for bohemian midi dresses and streamlined maxi gowns – perfect for daytime or evening adventures anywhere in the world that smart people gather.

Laurel Canyon

The Laurel Canyon collection was created as an homage to the relaxed bohemian style of southern California in the 1960’s and ‘70’s, and to the canyon in L.A. that was home to some of the era’s most iconic musicians such as Joni Mitchell and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Floral designs were all the craze at that time, and many were characterized by graphics with flat colors and outlines, part of the Hippie-psychedelic movement.
